Examinations

The Council conducts four categories of examinations: International Examinations, National Examinations, examinations conducted in collaboration with other examining bodies, and examinations conducted on behalf of other examining bodies.

National

NPSE

National Primary School Examination

Taken at the end of primary school (year six). The national examination that certifies completion of primary education in Sierra Leone.

BECE

Basic Education Certificate Examination

Taken at the end of junior secondary school (year nine). Determines progression to senior secondary or technical and vocational education.

International

WASSCE

West African Senior School Certificate Examination

The Council’s international school-leaving examination, taken across member countries and recognised for tertiary admission.
